Deep Snow Test for Honda Pioneer 500 with Camso X4S Tracks
Last year I got Camso X4S tracks for my 2015 Honda Pioneer 500 and only had limited snow to test them out. After an early storm things turned green this winter, but January 14-17 we got a couple rounds of heavy lake effect snow that delayed the nearby Bills-Steelers wild card game a couple days and left around 4 feet of snow in my yard.
After snowblowing a bunch of driveways a few times I was able to install the tracks and give them a test out. The only times I had to back up were a) when in deep snow I made a turn that was off camber- backing up and re-angling solved it and b) trying to go from the road up a high snow bank- it took a few forward/reverse runs to pack it down and make it through.
I am very impressed with how this little buggy made it through the snow with relative ease- my snowmobile (137” standard lug track) would have struggled and probably gotten stuck multiple times. Note- I did also add a TorqMaster front locker which helps make both front tracks work under all conditions.

Honda Pioneer 500 with Camso X4S Tracks - Play Time in Snow Drifts

Winter is in its last gasps here in WNY and the sugarbush is colder with more snow than places 10 minutes away. The drifts had a chance to compact a little and they posed no problem for this side by side (SXS) no matter how deep.
Pioneer 500 with Camso X4S Tracks Winter Traction Review

A review of the Pioneer 500 with Camso X4S tracks in winter conditions. This side by side also has the Torq Masters front TorqLocker which makes both front wheels or tracks lock in where traction is low. Overall we struggled to find any areas where the tracks would lose traction. Music is “Let’s Rock Today (Instrumental)” from StoryBlocks

2015 Honda Pioneer 500 w Camso X4S Tracks Sugarbush Review
Переглядів 4,3 тис.Рік тому
Here is my initial review of the Camso X4S UTV tracks on my Honda Pioneer 500 side by side (SXS). Since we don't have much snow to test I gave them a workout in my uncle's sugarbush on some muddy logging trails. They work really good and make it through with little effort and without tearing up the trails. So far I'm quite pleased and will be adding power steering to make the turning easier and...

I’ve added Camso X4S UTV tracks to my 2015 Pioneer 500. With the Torqlocker front diff lock it should go just about anywhere, but without power steering it can be a bear to turn.

I just got a mountain bike and hope to start riding off road for the first time in 30 or so years. My goal is to have fun, see cool places and scenery, get in shape, and not break myself. 😁

Wow that goes great in the snow
Yes- I was really expecting to have to struggle more. I hope one of these winters the trails will see significant snow.
Holy moly, this is beyond cool!
Thank you for showing this. Also looking to buy either the Pioneer 520 or 700 for our sugarbush. Great machines! Since you installed the front diff lock and are waiting to install the power steering, did you ever consider the 700 instead for your application?
Not really, I wanted a 50 inch machine and manual transmission. I did get the power steering and it is great. I’m looking forward to testing it out this upcoming winter.
Thank you for your video! Doing research to purchase a Pioneer 520 for the same purpose. Beside the tracks which seems to be a must, what accessories would you recommend buying for the rig? And did you also consider installing a lock differential for the front axel?
Things I’ve added and recommend: A good full width skid plate. TorqMaster TorqLocker- for easy trail riding stock is ok, but if you’re going over obstacles, gnarly hills, or using tracks this makes the Pioneer a beast. A winch is a must for me. With the tracks I found power steering a must- I just added it before I took the tracks off and it makes a huge difference, and also makes driving it with wheels easy when in AWD with the TorqLocker. And then whatever protection and cargo items you think you’ll need. Also- I use the Bighorn 1.0s 26” - They have been pretty great, although during the summer I kind of wish I had put the front tire size on all 4 corners- the rears are a bit big and heavy but work pretty good in the muck.
Great Video! That's some good snow right there. Happy riding!!
🤗🏆🙏🇺🇲 Thank you for sharing
Probably the best equipment for fishing and hunting.
Great video. The Pioneer 500/520 are great woods machines
Yes they are!

I have a 6x4, I think it would have made it through
Second gear, no fear! :-)
scottv1300 wow awesome
What gear where u in?
How does it turn compared to a car or sports car? Does the lack of clearance get in the way?
That bike turned really well within it's limits, but the floorboards would pretty soon, limiting the tightness of the turns.
if he had went slow and easy, as I have one and been through deeper worse holes.. it would crawl out, but that looked way more fun!!! lol.. and on that note, I never got to use mine that hard and at less than 30 hours the dam $1100 trans went out... and a few months out of warr. so.. don't buy one.. maybe I was too nice to mine, when I took it in, they thought it was still new... lol..
+Jay jay dynamite Crawling through this stuff didn't work- it was like liquid taffy... there was just too much dragging.
Awesome video! Gave her a hell of a good go!
Nice! I've got a '13 RSX850i. One of the first things I did was fab up a little lift kit and add some taller tires. The ground clearance on these machines is awful from the factory. I now have right at 12". If you'd be interested in one, let me know.
Hi I'm interested
@@thomasthompson4999 sorry man, I no longer do those.
how's the power feel compared to a teryx 800?
I've only rode in the Teryx for a couple hours, but the Pioneer seemed at least as good low-end and quite a bit more powerful top end. It is much more quiet than the Teryx too. Even though it's a little wider, it felt much more compact than the Teryx as far as fitting through trails. The Teryx finish was more automotive while the pioneer was more utility..
+scottv1300 tanks for the response. i sold my 700-4 for a 2015 T4 and the power difference was night and day in favor of the t4, sounds like they got it right with this one.
wow, great video of how the dash looks and how not to know how to use a machine... very well put together.
Thanks! Yeah, it's a totally new beast when it comes to transmission functionality. Tried to show the control function, both good and bad…
Not liking the fact that the ECU let it eat the fuel cut prior to grabbing the next gear, that's very unlike Honda- is this a prototype tune?
We were wondering if there's some sort of break in period where the rev limiter or kicks in at a lower RPM. Still, if that's the case, it seems like during that break in period, the shifting logic should adjust accordingly. I haven't heard other people who have tested the machine mention that, so I'm wondering if it was just this unit?
old timer was really having a difficult time comprehending
Did he really ask if there was a sport mode in manual?? LOL
+Danny Williams I think there's confusion as to what sport mode is... On the Can-Ams, the sport mode key changes the speed/rev limiter, timing etc. for the engine. Also, Tesla and and the Hellcat have sport modes that change the engine performance. On the Pioneer it is solely a transmission mode that changes the automatic shifting behavior.
+scottv1300 Never heard of a sport mode changing the engine before, only known them on transmissions. Seems strange, when would you not want your can am in sport mode?? Seems like a feature I would never turn off.

They come with 3 keys. If you had someone less experienced you give them the slow key(s). Use less fuel, etc.. With the fast key the Commander X 1000 can be plenty hairy for the inexperienced.
This machine checks a LOT of boxes! I'm excited to get my hands on one. Thanks for giving me another small taste of the Pioneer! Obviously you were able to fit two adult males in the back seat, so that's pretty impressive. I'm sure it wasn't comfortable to the point that they would want to spend hours back there, but it's good to know that it can be done. I just think this is the perfect machine for what I'm looking for. I'm able to take it out with my buddies and have some fun with the 1000cc power, but still fit the whole family in it when we want to cruise around the neighborhood. Well done, Honda!
How low is the low range in manual shift?...would this thing have trouble turning all four tires in dif-lock in heavy mud?...also will it seat three in the front?...
+defstar It's pretty low- in the video with Rick driving he runs it in Low for awhile. I don't see this thing having any issues spinning any normal tire in pretty much any condition. With the massive amounts of torque and basically 12 gear ratios of direct geared drive it should really romp well in the sippy. Yes- 3 in the front- the other videos from the machine show this.
It has a very strong pull and moves at sharply, especially in Sport Mode. It would've been great if they would have let us line up against other side by sides. It's hard to compare in isolation but it felt really strong. With four guys in the Pioneer I'm not sure I could keep up to it on the straights with my much lighter RZR 800.
How is it? Pretty fast?
+Andy Fisher For a full size they really get up and go. Great responsiveness from the power plant and drive train. Check out the other videos that feature some more spirited driving...
Is it pretty fast with 4 adults in it?
+Andy Fisher We had 5 adults for the first two rides and it motored right along. The suspension with the self leveling shocks handled it surprisingly well. There was a little bit of push in the corners with that much weight but running in turf mode alleviated that.
okay I was just curious I have a commander also only had it for Less than a year learning the ins and outs also.
Is he smoking the belt? If not whats the white smoke?
It was definitely slipping-- probably smoking too, though some of that may have been steam..
The FreewayBlaster wouldn't fit in most sportsbikes.
Just got the Wolo Model 325-2T from Amazon, can't WAIT to install it on my 1300 Tourer! Hate those BEEP BEEP horns!
any problems installing it that position? Is that easy? I bought me a Wolo air horn and was thinking of installing it in the same spot or just beneath the seat and exhaust where the round chrome piece is situated. Any advice is appreciated...
Hey Man! do you have the originals pipes? if you do ,do you want to sell it? how much weldingrodz@hotmail.com
Just wondering how that handles corners with a car tire on the rear?
Sound great, just what I need for my V Star. Did you fit a Power Commander, or similar as well?
I installed a WOLO Bad Boy on my '09 VStar 1300 T and it works great!
hey my friend ,, you know if u can put a straight wheel in this bike ,, and if u can low the back side
Thanks! I do wish it were a bit longer (even with the saddle bags) but I really like the clean flow, the large end pipe, and the Billted cap with black ring. The V&H looks & sounds good, and is a closer match to the stock, but I wanted to try something a little different. I just hope it's not to headache producing on long rides.
I love the look of that pipe, definately one of the nicer looking ones around.
Thanks. I love the 2-into-1 look, and this system is cleaner than the stock one. A lot of people (including my brother) don't like it.
I think that I had modified the stock exhaust some when this video was taken. (Drilled a hole in the center wall)
Very nice ride and scenery
